Kasich tells voter: ‘It’s time to make a purchase’
CONCORD, N.H. – After 102 New Hampshire town halls since summer 2015, Ohio Gov. John Kasich appeared very comfortable Sunday afternoon in front of one of his last standing-room-only crowds before Tuesday’s primary.
Many there cited Kasich’s positive disposition and desire to bring people together as crucial reasons for supporting his candidacy for president.
“He’s even-tempered and positive,” said Taylor Lantiegne, a Kasich supporter and young father who was an undecided voter until Saturday evening’s GOP debate. “He’s different than the other candidates who are more radical, throwing around flashy statements.”
Lantiegne called Sen. Ted Cruz’s, R-Texas, rhetoric about immigration “unrealistic” and “flashy.” Lantiegne said he would consider a more conservative candidate if he or she possessed Kasich’s personality and demeanor.
One voter told Kasich she was still shopping for a candidate.
“The store’s going to be closing soon,” Kasich said. “It’s time to make a purchase.”
Talking about the need for sensible regulations on businesses, Kasich told voters, “We have to come to the rescue of small businesses. Regulations are killing us.”
Kevin Sullivan, who has been a Kasich supporter since early fall, said Kasich has the necessary leadership and a record of getting things done.
“He’s done the work. He’s put in the time. He’s earned it,” Sullivan said.
Betsi Shays, wife of former Rep. Chris Shays, R-Conn., said she hoped “New Hampshire voters realize they have an opportunity of a lifetime to vote a great candidate to the next level.”
She said this is the first time in more than 30 years that she has been this excited to vote.
