CONCORD, N.H. — Eager voters braved snow and cold to cast votes Tuesday morning after a blizzard of last-minute campaigning by Republican and Democratic presidential hopefuls.

Concord resident Melvin Severance voted for Bernie Sanders.

“He is the most candid and issue-focused candidate,” Severance said.

While Severance is a registered Democrat, he said he has an eye on the GOP race, as well.

“It is interesting to see the microcosm of conservative voters and how it plays out,” he said.

Crystal Ploof, a newcomer to New Hampshire and a Bernie Sanders supporter, was just learning the ins and outs of voting  in New Hampshire when she cast her vote.

“I didn’t know you could register the same day you vote,” Ploof said.

Over at the Green Street Community Center, former New Hampshire Democratic state senator Sylvia Larson cast her vote for Hillary Clinton.

“I can’t think of a more experienced candidate, male or female,” Larson said.

Larson, who was the state senate’s longest-serving Democratic female leader, was accompanied by her daughter, Amelia, and Tessa, her 9-month-old granddaughter.

“We try to teach them to vote right from the very beginning in New Hampshire,” Larson said.
